Data Community
This Program is building sustainable sources of data and information to support planning and distribution in a rapidly changing economic environment.
What the Founder of Google say:
"The web creates new challenges for information retrieval. The amount of information on the web is growing rapidly, as well as the number of new users inexperienced in the art of web research. People are likely to surf the web using its link graph, often starting with high quality human maintained indices. Of course there could be an infinite amount of machine generated content, but just indexing huge amounts of human generated content seems tremendously useful." The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hyper textual Web Search Engine by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page, Founder of Google.
Our source of data will be indexed manually and available on a web portal to provide an international repository of data and information to support the sectoral strategic planning and decision support projects. Electronic access should facilitate information sharing among travel and tourism professionals and support efforts for a worldwide approach to managing and solving industry related issues.
Data objects stored in the repository include entities, entity definitions, attributes, attribute definitions, attribute characteristics (size, types, constraints, etc.), unique identifiers, relationships, domains, tables, table definitions, columns, column definitions, column characteristics (size, type, constraints), primary keys, indexes and database constraints.
Process in acquiring data and information sources:
- Institutional Research to identify all data and information sources
- Internal and External data sources
- Quantitative and Qualitative evaluation
- Resources required to support the provision of the data
- Central online repository of data and information
- Data gaps identified
The Travel & Tourism Foundation approach is an attempt to integrate fragmented data and technology at the industry level. The anticipated result of this complex interaction between data and the decision making will be realized in the form of long-term benefits to the travelers and the public at large.
Our Travelindex project aims to be the repository database for the travel and tourism industry and the base for the true semantic web in travel and tourism.
