With the move from host mainframes and into relational databases, data can be shared among multiple information systems. The migration away from the legacy, cryptic environments permits the free flow of data to integrate with online booking tools, corporate payment systems and human resources databases, which often carry redundant data or profiles.

The next-generation of travel data management systems are built on open, web-enabled, configurable architectures with friendly graphical user interfaces. Travellers information can be transferred between various transaction records, keeping reservations consistent, reducing reservation processing and enabling quick builds of group bookings.

The Travel and Tourism Foundation supports free exchange of information within the travel industry. Open source data will add value through facilitating an increasing the flow of trade and revenue on a global basis. Data projects supported by the Foundation will be public and available for all business entities within the travel and tourism industries.
